The Table
500 People in 50 Days · An artwork of radical hospitality
A seat for everyone. A feast we create together.
A table is never just furniture. It’s where stories are shared, ideas exchanged, laughter rings out, and silence holds what words can’t. Tables carry our lives — the ordinary and the sacred.
This spring, we’re setting The Table: a growing, living artwork and community project exploring radical hospitality — not the kind found in etiquette books, but the kind that makes space for difference, welcomes the stranger, and listens without agenda.
From 1 November to 20 December, we’re attempting something bold:
to gather 500 people in 50 days through art, story, and connection.
Every cup decorated, every story shared, every interview, song, or conversation adds another layer to this evolving artwork. Together, we’re building a table that’s more than an object — it’s a portrait of a community learning to make room for one another.
In December, we’ll reveal the table in all its abundance at The Final Feast — a live performance and communal celebration where the stories, songs, and creative traces gathered over the 50 days come together in one shared space of belonging.
Because The Table is not just about comfort. At a true table, we don’t always choose who sits beside us.
Radical hospitality means making space for difference, risking awkward pauses, hearing stories that unsettle, and discovering joy and connection in the mix.
This is art that makes place — a place where everyone has a seat, every voice matters, and every story belongs.
Pull up a chair. There’s a place for you at The Table.
Artist Statement
Kendall Bryant
The Table began with a simple idea: what if art could make space — real, physical, emotional space — for people to belong?
I use the arts as a tool to explore radical hospitality — not the kind found in etiquette books, but the kind that opens a chair to the stranger, listens without agenda, and sees what is usually unseen. Through movement, song, theatre, storytelling, and shared making, people gather around The Table to practice welcome as a creative act.
The table itself becomes a living artwork — layered with objects, stories, and traces of those who came. It grows across months of participation, culminating in The Final Feast, where performance, installation, and community meet.
This work is as much about process as it is about product. Every mark, word, or gesture left behind becomes part of a collective portrait — a reminder that art, at its best, is an act of hospitality.
How to Take Part
You don’t need to be an artist to pull up a chair — just someone willing to connect.
There are many ways to join The Table — from decorating a cup to hosting a gathering, creating art, or performing at the Final Feast.
Every act of participation, big or small, adds another mark of welcome to the living artwork we’re building together.
